Posted by goldchain On April - 29 - 2009

Endgadget has a contest! Read the info below:

This whole global economic crisis, and its resulting massive loss of jobs got us thinking. We here at Engadget didn’t want to stand helplessly by, announcing every new round of misery without giving anything back — so we decided to take the opportunity to spread a little positivity. We’ll be handing out a new gadget every day (except for weekends) to lucky readers until we run out of stuff or companies stop sending things. Today we’ve got a Sonos Multi-Room Music System that will get you two rooms of music and a Controller (plus, if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you’ll be able to control it that way — see the demo video after the break). Read the rules below (no skimming — we’re omniscient and can tell when you’ve skimmed) and get commenting! Hooray for free stuff! Two more shots of the products after the break.

What Sher Sher has to Say…

Funkey FlashBack

Funkey FlashBack

by GiGi

Sher Sher is the creative director of the urban street wear brand Funkey Flash Black based in Virginia. I had a chat with her about her brand and here is what she had to say…

What is your fashion inspiration?  The fashion inspiration behind Funkey Flash Back (FFB) is about about being unique and breaking barriers and to not be like other companies.

Who are you modeling your business after, if anyone at all, what companies success do you admire?  Honestly, I am not modeling the company after anyone at all. We are setting our own environment and our own trends..with that said..I do like how LRG has made such
great progress over the last 10 years.

What hurdles have you faced in trying to launch your clothing line over the past few years?  The biggest hurdle would have to be dealing with the stores to carry the brand. Most of them are so stuck on what they see on TV, Magazines and videos that even if you have a great brand their interest is not there. Once we meet stores in person they become completely different people and love the goods. Stores need to learn to become great business people and reply to emails and telephone calls instead of not responding…

Who is your target customer?  Men ages 18-25 is the target, but we do have many younger men and older men that love what we offer. People that are cool and comfortable in their own skin that want to try something fresh and different.

Where do you retail your clothes?  We retail online at www.funkeyflashback.com and in addition we have a few store locations here in Virginia such as My Hot Spot in Military Circle Mall, Avenue 12 on Rosemont Road, Avenue 800 on Baker Road and Da Closet inside Lynnhaven Mall. These locations are all in Norfolk and Virginia Beach area. More locations to come soon we are going to be attending regional trade shows starting in June.

Are there any famous fans of your clothing line that you can tell us about as of yet?
Yes there is actually. The biggest fan is Spider Loc of G-Unit he always rocks our gear, but we are working on his line as well. It will be called BAYMAAC (Be About Ya Money At All Costs). Truthfully, the biggest fans and the ones we appreciate the most are the everyday people that support use and spread the word and purchase our gear.

Last Words?  To everyone out there that wants to succeed and people tell you it is not possible, please don’t believe that. Go with your heart..As far as FFB is concerned “Don’t Wait Till We Famous”. Get on board with us now. Thanks to all that have supported us. Thank you to Encore for allowing me to have this platform to share info on FFB. God Bless!

Encore Status: Soulja Boy

Brooklyn, New York (April 25, 2032)

Deandre Ramone Ray aka the now legendary Soulja Boy received the lifetime achievement award last night at the annual B.E.T. Awards.

The Rapper/Dancer/ Mogul who arrived on the hip-hop scene with his critically acclaimed “Crank That” in 2007 was recognized for his contribution to the ringtone, a genre for which he is now regarded as a pioneer. Mr. Ray, now C.E.O. and President of Swagulous Records, was humbled by the honor. “You just doing ya thing one day, and ya know, ya boys are like, son that whats up, and ya like word, Uhhhhn. Turn my swag on, and the next thing you know, ya blowin up and whatnot, word.”

Ray, who retired officially from rapping, or whatever that was, in 2013, released three platinum albums in a span of 6 weeks, a feat that has since only been topped by his protégés Stax and Maf , the duo responsible for “Stax dat Maf,”Genie Rub,” and “ Swag dem Wallz.” Ray has produced such now definitive acts as Ho-sefina, G-Swag the AY-rab, and $$$. Soulja Boy made hip-hop magic by completely abandoning the outdated notion of “rhyming” and skipped right into establishing his swagger in vague but apparently legitimate terms. His final album “Swagger Daggers: How da Genius Cutz the Game” is now heralded as one of the great hip hop opuses of the early 21st.

During Souja’s acceptance speech one troubled man referring to himself as a “backpacker” threw a Nas Mixtape, as well as a pair of Adidas Shell Toes at the stage screaming “ Sucka Ass Emcees Killed Hip Hop!!! Bling Bling BOO!! Bling Bling BOOOOOO!! The man has since been identified as former sorta important person, Dante Terrel Smith, formerly known as Mos-Def. Mr Ray however, recovered gracefully and responded on stage “ I aint do nothing to em, But count this money, and put ma team on, now my whole click stunning.”

Mos was subsequently unavailable for comment

Tamar Kali – Artist Review

Posted by branddre06 On April - 23 - 2009
Tamar Kali

Tamar Kali

Artist Review
Tamar Kali, Geechee Goddess, Hardcore Warrior Soul
Santos Party House – March 28, 2009 – New York, NY

She struts on stage like a Brooklyn OG. The music unmistakably rock yet the vibe is strangely hip-hop. She dances to her music in a trance like state with a sensuality and sexiness that belies her punk rock image. Her music and her presence overwhelm the senses and intoxicate the mind. Her voice and swagger bring to mind the glory days of Grace Jones and Nona Hendrix. There is no one like Tamar Kali! Her voice is low and raw with a touch of rebel yell! Billy Idol, meet your sister from another mother of another color!
Despite the power that she displays and the rawness of her appearance much of her music seems to deal with affairs of the heart and hints to painful experiences of being accepted in a world that is defined by Euro-central ideas of what beauty should be. In “Ocean”, she speaks about unabashed love. In “Boot”, she describes her physical characteristics, “ Her hair is short, her lips are brown…her eyes aren’t blue, her ass is round..” letting the world know that even though she may fit a certain look, she will not be defined by her physical traits and confined to what the world thinks she should be into. Black punk rocker? Is that even possible? In our MTV world, where race more often than not defines certain expectations and immediately pigeon holes you into what music you should be making, here is an artist that defies those limits and expectations.
Tamar Kali is like an unpolished diamond in the rough. Hopefully, the world at large will get the opportunity to experience her shine.

Andre Barrett a.k.a the people have spoken!
